“House Party” is the official realtor.com® podcast about the overlapping worlds of real estate and pop culture, hosted by Natalie WayErik Gunther, and Rachel Stults. Click the player above to hear our takes on this week’s hot topics.

“House Party” regulars know that we’ve explored the design world’s obsession with “colors of the year,” but we recently caught wind of what we believe to be the first scent of the year and, naturally, we had to discuss.

Yankee Candle recently released “Awaken,” a candle that’s supposed to provide “a bright vision for the New Year with a sparkling fragrance of unique mineral and soft wood notes.”

That all sounds great, but it raises the question: Would you buy a candle for your home without smelling it first? Does the “(insert item) of the year” strategy work only if it’s something like colors that you can perceive without going into a store? We ponder these questions, and chat about our own candle fragrance likes and dislikes, on this week’s episode.

We also cover the following:

  • Two new decommissioned missile silos that are currently being sold as residential properties (Would you live 35 feet underground?)
  • Home design trends that are falling out of style
  • This week’s winners and losers—with a never-before-heard twist!
