Funnyman Will Forte has purchased a seriously nice home along the California coast.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum picked up a contemporary retreat in Carmel for $6.25 million in November, a sale price discounted from the original list price of $6,975,000. Even so, it’s a hefty price for a vacation home. Guess it pays to be “The Last Man on Earth.”
The property debuted on the market in 2016, with a price tag of $7.5 million, and slowly dropped in price over the years.
Built in 1980, the three-bedroom, 2.5-bath layout includes 3,612 square feet of living space and sits on 1.14 acres.
Set over two inlets in the exclusive enclave of Otter Cove, the granite, glass, and redwood home offers dramatic views of the ocean below. The interior space includes a large chef’s kitchen with breakfast bar, remodeled baths, and a master bedroom on the ground level.
The layout, with walls and ceilings covered in warm wood paneling, also features a living room with a fireplace, formal dining room, office, and wine room.
Outside, the space includes multiple decks, an outdoor dining area, and a path leading down to the beach. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide views of the coastal landscape, as well as the whales, otters, and sea birds that frequent the area.
Forte is not the only local luminary. The Carmel Highlands, with its rugged coastline and scenery, has long proved inspiring to artists and writers, who flocked there in the early part of the 20th century. Notable among them were the photographers Ansel Adams and Ed Weston, and the writer Sinclair Lewis.
Now, of course, the pricey homes and privacy make it a popular destination for celebrities and the wealthy. The area is located near the stunning scenery of Point Lobos State Reserve, and serves as the northern gateway to the Big Sur coastline, along California State Route 1.
Forte, 49, spent eight years as a cast member on “SNL” and also owns a home in Santa Monica. On the show, he developed the character of “MacGruber,” who went on to get his own feature film and is set to become a show on the upcoming Peacock streaming service.
More recently, the actor and writer, in addition to creating and starring in the sitcom “The Last Man on Earth,” took a leading role in the film “Nebraska.”
The seller was represented by Tina Carpenter with Sotheby’s International Realty—Carmel Rancho. Mary Hawley of KW Bay Area Estates represented the buyer.
