$63M Bel Air Mansion in ‘Superb’ Location Is Most Expensive New Listing

realtor.com

A grand Southern California estate on the market for $63 million is this week’s most expensive new property on realtor.com®. Located in lower Bel Air, the estate overlooks the Bel Air Country Club’s fairways.

Described as “regal” in the listing, the white brick manor sits on 2 acres in an “exceptional setting,” says listing agent Tania Ferris. Ferris is also the co-owner of the home along with local developer Guy Hackbarth.

The estate was originally built in 2001 for brokerage founder Jon Douglas, according to the Real Deal. After Douglas’ death in 2010, the home was sold in 2011 for $11.4 million.

The current owners then embarked on substantial renovations, including adding a home theater and additional square footage, along with “significant changes to the property,” Ferris says.

Now that their work is done, Ferris says the home has great curb appeal.

“It’s a very, very rare 2-acre parcel,” Ferris says. “It sits up off of the street, and it sits very majestically on the lot. The location is superb.”

The eight-bed, 13-bath mansion also comes with a two-bedroom, 2.5-bath guesthouse.

Classic details include limestone and walnut hardwood flooring throughout. The 15,000-square-foot floor plan includes a living room, library, dining room, family room, gym, and home theater. There are eight fireplaces. The 3,200-square-foot master suite features dual offices, dual baths, a sitting room, and “fabulous” closets.

In addition, the grounds boast rose gardens, a 70-foot pool, spa, motor court, and on-site parking for 50 cars. The property also includes a staff room and a detached staff apartment.

The mansion initially tested the market in October 2019 at the same price, but was listed anew in the new year.

Perhaps the jaw-dropping sale of the Chartwell estate late last year for a reported $150 million provided encouragement for this elegant mansion to bounce back onto the market this week. We’ll see if the strategy pays off in a big way.
