Priced at $900K, Albuquerque’s Art House Is a Wild Explosion of Color

Albuquerque Art House

Entering through the front doors of an unassuming two-story brick home in Albuquerque, NM, is like taking a trip.

The kind of trip on offer is up for debate.

For a buyer willing to shell out $899,000, this popular vacation rental, owned by an artist, is ready to transport a new owner into another dimension.

The exterior of the home calls New Orleans to mind, with plenty of intricate white ironwork.

Then you walk inside—and bam! It hits you. An explosion of color and art everywhere.

Splashes of color assault the senses from the moment you enter. The entryway of the huge, 6,570-square-foot house is a shocking shade of orange. Then there’s a winding red staircase decked out with mosaic tile accents and flanked by ornate black ironwork.

Built in 1973, the home landed on the market for $969,000 a month ago. A recent price reduction shaved $70,000 off that figure, in an attempt to tempt a buyer to “enjoy the special character of this home.”

On that we can agree—it’s certainly special.

The dining area features graffiti art all over the walls, as well as floors spattered in different colors.

The kitchen oozes ’70s-era flair, with harvest gold-appliances and coordinated counters.

There are four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, each with unique decor.

The master bedroom features a disco ball hanging from the ceiling and large bed on a multitiered platform, requiring several steps down if you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night.

Pink is the predominant color of the attached master bathroom, dominated by a round red sunken tub in what appears to be a pink marble alcove.

Other bedrooms and bathrooms are finished with wild amounts of wallpaper, tile, and paint.

An elaborate painted ceiling decorates the area above the staircase, creating a colorful seating and gathering area outside the bedrooms.

An indoor pool area, complete with Tiki roof, sauna, and bathroom, is an ideal party space, sheltered from the elements.

On the lowest level, accessed by a colorful staircase, is an 870-square-foot basement with a recreation room, theater area, and storage space. There’s also a four-car garage.

Outside, the spacious porch overlooks a park across the street, and the large backyard has plenty of possibility. Views of the Sandia Mountains can be seen from the upstairs balcony.

The listing details state there are “many possibilities” for the property, and it currently serves an income-producing vacation rental. Current pricing for the place on Airbnb is nearly $500 a night—which means new owners could have a steady cash flow, should they decide to keep the place available as a short-term rental property.

Known as the Art House on the popular vacation rental site, the home is being sold as is, and much of the furniture can stay.
