Just a few weeks after announcing his retirement, the former Boston Celtics executive Danny Ainge is dribbling away from his Wellesley, MA, home. Ainge’s place is now on the market for $4.5 million.

He purchased the brand-new abode in 2003 for $2.3 million, the year he was hired as an executive with the team. Now retired from his position as president of basketball operations, he’s moving on from his longtime home as well.

The Colonial home in the Country Club neighborhood is described as “rarely found,” and its custom interiors offer six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms, spread over 8,309 square feet.

A “magnificent new kitchen” is the home’s focal point, and features custom cabinets, quartzite counters, a statement hood, plus a full pantry with an extra fridge. The kitchen opens to a breakfast room, family room, and sunroom, all of which lead out to a patio.

In addition, the main level features a bright, white office with built-ins. The layout also includes a formal dining room, a formal living room with a fireplace, and walls of windows, plus a private guest suite.

Upstairs, the luxurious master suite includes a sitting area, a spalike bathoom, a walk-in closet, and a private balcony.

In addition, three more bedrooms and a laundry can be found on the second floor. On the third floor, there’s an additional bedroom and bathroom that are ideal for an overnight guest.

The layout includes a new media room featuring a golf simulator, as well as plenty of Celtics memorabilia.

On the lower level, there’s plenty of room for play space, as well as a gym and bathroom.

Outside, the property of almost a half-acre includes manicured lawns and private grounds—and, naturally, a basketball hoop.

Ainge, 62, played for 14 seasons in the NBA predominantly with the Celtics, where he was a two-time NBA champion. After hanging up his sneakers in 1995, the former guard was hired as the coach for the Suns in 1996. He eventually made his way back to the Celtics’ front office and helped construct the 2008 NBA champion squad.

Earlier this month, he announced his retirement from his executive role.

Christine Lawrence with Rutledge Properties holds the listing.
