Picture it: It’s the swinging 1960s, and a cavalcade of stars gather for an after-hours soirée at the large Las Vegas home of Jerry Lewis. With rumaki in one hand and a martini in the other, a veritable who’s who of entertainers passed through this large house over the three decades that Lewis owned it.
Now, the late comic legend’s former home is on the market for $1,295,000.
Built in 1964 and beautifully preserved, the home sits on three-quarters of an acre in the historic Scotch 80s neighborhood. The community started in the 1950s and is known for its “ornate architecture,” according to Las Vegas Magazine.
Located a little north of the famed Strip and just south of the city’s downtown, it has traditionally been filled with casino moguls, entertainers, and local elites who desire a home with more character than a typical McMansion.
Howard Hughes, Steve Wynn, and Nicholas Cage are only a few of the A-list names who have owned homes in the Scotch 80s over the decades. The Las Vegas Magazine article on the neighborhood notes that homes can be hard to come by, as families tend to hold onto properties for generations.
The Lewis home is a brick, two-story ranch with six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and over 7,300 square feet of living space.
It has some signature touches of 1960s Vegas opulence, including a twinkling, oversized chandelier in the living room and a facing of beveled mirrored panels flanking the dramatic curved staircase. It’s easy to imagine the library loft above the living room serving as a stage for Lewis.
The family room includes an enormous fireplace built from petrified wood, as well as a wet bar. It opens onto a patio and the pool, which features a rock wall waterfall. Beyond the pool is a gazebo and a casita that is being used as an office.
The great bones of this classic residence are easy to spot, but a buyer may want to make a few updates to the light wood cabinetry, the wallpaper, and the palette of the interior paint. With a few decor and design tweaks, this home could be set back on the path to its 1960s heyday.
Now this piece of Las Vegas lore is available for a relative bargain, with a huge chunk of entertainment history thrown in to boot.
